The RaceMonkey 2010 Nascar schedule
So we all have our opinions on how the season should go and what tracks should be when. So without further ado, here’s the RaceMonkey 2010 Nascar schedule.
1. Daytona – no brainer
2. Texas – Head west! This should help teams save on travel costs instead of bypassing Texas for Fontana. Plus why would you have a race in L.A. on Oscar weekend and then wonder why nobody goes and ratings are down? Duh.
3. Las Vegas – This is a pretty good spot here for Vegas. Just before March Madness takes over every Casino for a month.
4. Phoenix – This is currently where Atlanta is, but who wants three 1.5ers in a row? Oh yeah, Greg Biffle.
5. Kentucky – This really is fiction isn’t it? Yeah, it’s fiction.
6. Atlanta – Back in Nascar country. And it’s a little warmer – maybe they can sell out now?
7. Darlington – But….but….what about Labor Day?
8. Bristol – Just a couple weeks later. No harm, no foul. No seats left.
9. Talladega – I planned on putting Talladega exactly between the two Daytona races. Apparently Nascar had the same thought. Hmm.
10. Richmond – No problems here. The weather’s just right for a good night race. My bias may be showing.
11. Charlotte – We’ll keep Nascar’s home track on Memorial Day weekend. RaceMonkey isn’t one to kill tradition. much.
12. Martinsville – This date coincides with the Burton family reunion down the road in South Boston, which is really just an excuse for me to shill for Ward some more.
13. Dover – Joe Biden requested this weekend. Apparently he gets that weekend off.
14. Iowa – What?? Iowa gets a race? Yup. But Pocono was here! Yup. Does Pocono lose a race? Yup. Besides, this 7/8 mile track was designed by Rusty Wallace, and that dude knows a thing or two about short tracks.
15. Fontana - Placeholder spot for a placeholder track.
16. Sonoma – Somehow this ended up in the exact same spot. Not really sure how. And not intentional.
17. Loudon – I like New Hampshire. Not the state, just the track.
18. Daytona – I like that Daytona is on July 4th weekend. Something gooey All-American about it.
19. Pocono – Still a big fast track and unique. A good sandwich between Daytona and…..
20. Indianapolis – I can’t think of any reason to move the Brickyard other than simple abuse of power.
21. Michigan – Shouldn’t Iowa be here instead? maybe.
22. Chicago – hmm. This really one really only works if the Cubs have an away game.
23. Homestead - The only race Gordon has not won. As incentive, Ingrid promises to go topless on South Beach…if he loses. Every male in Florida roots against Jeff Gordon.
24. Bristol – Here begins the Old School tour with an Old School night race.
25. Darlington – See. And you got all pissy there for a second when you thought there would be only one Darlington race. The Southern 500 returns to its rightful place on Labor Day.
26. Richmond – The perfect place to have the last race before the chase begins.
27. Dover – I like Loudon and all, but the Chase needs a little more exciting start.
28. Kansas - Kansas = cookie cutter. However, casinos can be very persuasive.
29. Watkins Glen – Just when you think I’d totally forgotten about The Glen I go and give them a Chase Race.
30. Texas – A mile and a half track is just what the Dr. ordered for Kenseth.
31. Talladega - This race has no business being in the chase as it’s such a wild-card. But the champ should be able to drive all the different kinds of tracks. Watkins Glen is here, so is Talladega.
32. Loudon - Jeff Burton, fresh off a wreck at Talladega, sends a personal thank you to RaceMonkey for having Loudon next.
33. Charlotte – Maybe the Hall of Fame will be done by then.
34. Martinsville – I love that the oldest track is still relevant by being in the chase.
35. Las Vegas – If they’re hosting the awards show, they’re gonna want another race. I’m inclined to give it to ‘em.
36. Phoenix - I would have put Vegas here for the spectacle, but who wants another mile and a half to end the season on? Phoenix is unique and fun, and maybe there could be a little more suspense for a change.
I really only get into two types of races; restrictor plate and short track.
I wondered how long it would take you to Rusty on this blog. Not bad it only took about 6 posts.
To the “proposed” schedule…let’s just get rid of Fontana. Worst track on the circuit. Also replace Kansas with Nashville. While it looks like any other track on the circuit if you watch the Nationwide boys race there it is a legit place to run. Lots of passing and much more exciting than the 1.5ers out there.
I love the idea of having to race across all the different types of track in The Chase. It would add even more excitement. I could do without Vegas on there but what can you do.
Nice list. Now if you can make Bristol an exciting race again I would be grateful. They need to get it back to what is once was and not what it is now.
Can someone tell me why Sparta,KY does not have a Sprint Cup Race.It is a fast track. And why in the world do they have race in Kansas City I will never know!I would if it were me but it’s not drop Homestead move the schedule down except the Holiday races and somehow slide Sparta in there.
And somehow only allow Pocono one race why do they need two,and to be frank about it all the Nascar drivers do not like racing up there reasons unknown. That would be great if Pocono would have one race keep Homestead or not give Las Vegas or Phoenix one race and somehow give Sparta,KY a Sprint cup race.Does that make any since?
The Nascar drivers who race the Nationwide series love that track cause it is very fast.
You should put one more road course, maybe montreal, but i agree with all the other tracks, maybe the chase should have 12 races after a regular season of 24, it would be better and fair.
Come on race monkey, talladega should be the last race in the chase. if you want excitmenet, if you want ratings, put the most controversial race in the last spot.
i like your changes, but a really perfect schedule should have 2 more road courses, like Road America and Montreal, no chase format, and the perfect place for the season finale would be: daytona 600!
